Appliances in the datacentre

IT appliances are increasingly being introduced into datacentres to perform a diverse set of tasks in place of general-purpose servers. In the era where commoditisation and consolidation are common trends, this runs contrary to much conventional wisdom. It’s our opinion that appliances offer a number of benefits: applied appropriately, they can greatly improve the performance, scalability, cost and environmental impact of corporate IT.

Nig Greenaway
