Smartcards – realising the opportunity for travel operators

The uptake and evolution of smartcards is a real opportunity for the travel industry to streamline operations, reduce costs, improve customer service and develop new revenue streams. With governments now endorsing them, there’s never been a better time to get on board. It’s our opinion that it’s time to stop being distracted by standards issues and concentrate on the real issue; how to use the underlying IT infrastructure to drive up usage and realise their true potential.

Whose opinion?

Michael Keegan

Michael is the director of our identity management unit and a non-executive board member of Welcome Real Time, a payment software provider for smart cards based in Aix en-Provence and Singapore. He has previously worked for the Post Office, Nat West and MasterCard International where he was responsible for worldwide smart card products and services for member banks, including the development of the EMV payment standard and application, Mondex e-cash, Multos and Global Key Management Services.

Michael’s outside interests include skiing, diving and 20th century military history, as well as such a passion for punk rock that he had ‘The Damned’ play a concert at his 40th birthday party

 

John Newton

John has been in the IT business for many years and is a well-known and experienced business consultant. He has worked in both the public and private sectors and is now our principal consultant for government. John has been in and around “Whitehall” for ten years or so and has been engaged in one way or another with the National Identity Scheme for the last few years. He currently leads Fujitsu’s thinking across the spectrum of practical applications of identity assurance and management in multiple G2C and B2C channels.

He lives in West London, is a keen choral singer and keeps fit by trying to keep up with two primary school age daughters and their hard working mum.
