Report on event for pensioners at Bracknell on 8th Nov
16 November 2006
Brief Report on the talk and discussion at the event for TVC life members and ICL pensioners

This years `gathering with a pensions theme’ for TVC life members and ICL Group Pensioners was held on Wednesday 8th Nov at the TVC at BRA01. 36 pensioners attended – an interesting mix from a variety of backgrounds.

This year we had a short illustrated talk from Tony Prynne of the Pensions Department. The slides and some photos of people at the event have been published in the members area – Click here to log in to the Members Area and then look for the entry on the noticeboard.

The talk included the following:

  • Pension Plan membership – now more pensioners than active contributors (see slide 4).
  • The Plan assets are substantial – our pension plan ranks number 118 among UK company pension plans (see slide 5).
  • Life expectancy – a major increase in the last 15 years (see slide 6).
  • Average pension is high in comparison with other companies, as shown by table of average pensions by age (see slide 7).
  • Background information on Plan changes affecting active members, and on state pensions.
  • The overall UK pensions problem as the population ages.
  • Communications from the Pensions Department – more information than ever before is now available to members – by this website, the new annual Summary Funding Statement and by the `Pensions Insight’ publication (Autumn 2006 issue just out - see earlier news item).
  • The plan valuation was discussed – no new information is yet available. The Trustees are in discussion with the company on the results and on actions to address the deficit. For more background see the last IPMC minutes (see the members area on this website), and also Rod Scott’s report from that meeting (see earlier news item).

The talk was followed by informal discussion – with Tony Prynne and Simon Wardrobe of the Pensions Department. All in a relaxed atmosphere – with plenty of food. More are welcome next year – make a note in your diary to look out for the date in November 2007.
