Digital 60 events at Manchester on Friday 20th June
29 May 2008
Details of events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first stored program computer and on computer developments at Manchester. ICL people are welcome to join in.

Digital 60 is a programme of events at Manchester to mark the 60th anniversary of the first stored program computer – the Manchester Baby.

The programme includes events that may interest ICL pensioners specifically:

- a lecture by the ICL Professor of Computer Engineering (Steve Furber) on `The Relentless March of the Microchip’. Steve is an excellent speaker. Attendance is free, but you need to book in advance.
- a celebratory seminar open to all about the history of computing and the influence of Manchester computer designs – please reserve your place in advance.

Click here for more information and links to the event details.

The Digital 60 website has lots of interesting information about early computers at Manchester – about the people and the machines – including some archive media clips. This new website is worth a look – and more if you are interested in the history of ICL or worked on Manchester developed ICL computers.

There is an overall presentation about the 2900/VME developments in a presentation given by Brian Proctor in 1998 – Click here to download his slides.

Credit is due to Chris Burton for his help in the organisation of Digital 60, and to Manchester University for hosting the excellent Digital 60 website.
